I got this email too, and I suspected it was related to the weird ongoings in the lower hemisphere. It's got me between a rock and a hard place, because I love my new Sagittarius Osiris... it's' truly an amazing product. But the marketing strategies that crop up around the periphery of this enterprise seem unfitting of any hand pans, especially those of the quality I received in the mail a few days ago.
I try to imagine what it must be like to live in a country that is less well-to-do than my own, and in such scary economic times. A talented, and perhaps struggling musician, develops a skill-set that has the potential make a lot of money... I'm not sure what I would do in that situation, but shamelessly capitalizing on it might be a temptation at the very least. Many of the hand pans that I'm aware of come from the "developed world" where it may be easier to sit on one's high horse and moralize unto the great unwashed masses about proper hand pan business modeling or preservation of the groovy spiritual essence of this instrument family.
Please notice that I'm using words like "might be" "may" "imagine".
I'm just using hypotheticals to remind us that it is important to keep an open-mind and try our best to project compassion in the face of these frustrations.
Reminds me of a story I read (which I will paraphrase terribly) about a man sitting on a train with three children who were running amok and just acting a fool. Another adult turns to the man and scolds, "You're children are so undisciplined! What kind of father are you? " The man shakes off the semblance of a trance and replies, "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't even notice. We're all a little shaken up. The children have just lost their mother."
It's a little anecdote to remind us to be compassionate because we don't know the full story. I prefer what some of the folks are saying in the other Saggi thread that I started yesterday, which is that we ought to let time run its course and withhold our judgements until more accounts and experiences are reported.
